Industrial Art & Design

In its short history, Industrial Art and Design has transformed a burned out storefront on Minneapolis’ northeast side into a veritable idea foundry. With a philosophy and portfolio developed through years of academic, professional and personal experimentation, fabrication and old fashioned tinkering, IAD has a uniquely holistic perspective on tap for any challenge.

Tetris may have had something to do with this one..but a nice solution and system for a very cool twin-cities firm.

Industrial Art & Design

The abstracted letterforms of the IAD mark nicely depict the nature of the business and its direction. 'Industrial' is pervasive through all that IAD does, though it is apparent in so many different senses of the word; thus, the 'I' in the mark serves as a representation of this holistic ideal. By establishing a primary palette of cyan and orange, the mark conveys both organic and inorganic origins, art and industry, cheech and chong. This holistic ideal also applies to the use of two shades of gray for the 'A' and 'D.' Art and Design are inextricably linked and continually mixed together both in the work IAD does and in the mark that now represents them. By using two shades of the same color it shows how the firm successfully balances and exploits both of these complicated disciplines. The gray/silver colors also speak to the metal work and tooling involved in most of their work. IAD's website, while a relatively straight-forward portfolio site, offers a rather well-evolved glimpse into the capabilities and personality of the firm.
